WHAT IS CREWFAM?
CrewFam is an ephemeral, lightweight social connector built specifically for touring roadies, audio engineers, lighting techs, riggers, drivers, and the crew family. It is NOT reinvented Facebook. There are no algorithms, no ad targeting, and no creepy door-level surveillance. The goal is simple: knowing when your road homies are in town, grabbing a quick coffee or post-show drink, and broadcasting quick tour notes from the road.
1. The Core Philosophy (Ethos)
Life on tour is unpredictable: long transit corridors, late bus calls, and constant time-zone shifts. You wake up on a sleeper bus asking: "Where is tomorrow and what day is today?"
Traditional social networks demand too much friction, while typical location apps (Find My, Life360) track your exact bedroom or bathroom door with zero privacy. CrewFam introduces Corridor-Level Privacy Bubbles: you share enough coarse location to know you're in the same city or corridor, without ever exposing your hotel room, bunk, or stage door.
2. Executive Summary: The Three Layers
Arterial Intersection Masking (~110m / 9km snap): Raw GPS coordinates are automatically rounded and snapped to major highway intersections and landmark centroids (e.g., "I-94 & Hwy 50" or "Chicago · Near United Center"). The continental view clusters clean city pins so zoomed-out maps never clutter.
Ephemeral Lifespans: Location updates, vibe statuses, and Tour Bulletins expire automatically. Tapping "Stop sharing" instantly and permanently purges your marker from the map for everyone.
User Autonomy & Safety: You can mute or follow any crew member with the 🔔 Follow Bell for in-town proximity alerts, or tap ⊘ Block to instantly hide and silence anyone.
3. The 60-Second Field Manual
STEP 01
Install to iPhone / Android
Open crewfam.app in mobile Safari. Tap Share ⎋ → scroll down and tap "Add to Home Screen". Installs instantly as a standalone full-screen app with zero App Store friction.
STEP 02
Share Your Bubble
Tap "Share my location" to publish your arterial bubble. You can update your 1-line vibe status (e.g. "Soundcheck until 4pm") anytime. Tap "Stop sharing" to vanish immediately.
STEP 03
🔔 Proximity Follow Bells
Tap the 🔔 bell on any roadie's square. When they roll into your city (within 15 miles), your phone triggers an in-town push alert: "🚨 Sarah is in town! 3 mi away".
STEP 04
💬 Roadie Quick-Pings
Tap 💬 on any homie's card to send a 1-tap ping: ☕ Coffee run?, 🍺 Post-show drinks?, 🌮 Food run?, or ⚡ Holler when free. You can also attach a backstage photo!
STEP 05
📻 Tour Bulletin Wire
Switch to the TOUR BULLETIN tab. Tap quick chips like 🚌 Out on tour, 🍕 Feed the crew, or 🤔 Where is tomorrow?. Broadcasts live to the whole crew for 48 hours.
STEP 06
+ PASS (Backstage Laminate)
Tap + PASS in the header bar. Shows your personal Backstage QR Laminate so friends at FOH or catering can scan and connect with one camera tap.
4. Connected OATS Network
CrewFam connects to the broader OATS Fleet control plane:
Johnny's Public Walkie: Johnny's card cross-links to his live voice-memo dispatch channel on updates.crewfam.app.
OwnTracks Background GPS: Crew members running background location send periodic fixes directly to loc.crewfam.app.
